Celebrating Our Upgraded Worship Space

We are in the final phase of our Worship space upgrade. I know we all appreciate our new chairs, sound equipment, Fellowship Hall monitors, and the sun-screen for the skylight. This was coordinated by our original team of volunteers: Jack Campbell, Donna Hatchett, Janet Loew and Tom Ricono, using funds from our Chalice Lighter grant. Many thanks also to Jim Campbell and Matt Bolick for their technological rework of the sound system equipment and storage and the video screens in the classrooms and foyer. To complete this project we turn our attention to the front area of our Worship space, the Chancel. Our member Dave Ott is an extremely talented woodworker....

Share the Plate - March - Sunnyside Freedom School

The Share the Plate recipient for March is the Sunnyside Freedom School. Our ambassador is Cynthia Dodge. This Fellowship adopted a social justice focus – the intersection of poverty and education – in 2016. Because that mission calls us to work boldly and deeply for justice, we have formed a relationship with the Sunnyside Freedom School, which is a highly-effective free summer literacy program developed by the Children’s Defense Fund. This proven high-energy approach focuses on children of color in grades K through 12 and uses culturally appropriate role models and curriculum to engage the students and to instill a love of reading. Freedom School “scholars” not only retain and gain skills over the summer, they leave empowered to shape their own destinies and to act as agents of change in their families and communities. Winning Chili Recipes Revealed!

Spring isn't here yet, which means there's still time to enjoy chili! The 2018 Chili Cookoff was a grand success, and the generous chefs have shared their winning recipes. Many thanks to Susan Campbell and the Hospitality Team for organizing the event, and especially to Nikki Miller-Ka for spending her Friday night with us as our professional judge. Follow Nikki's blog and find her on Twitter @NikSnacks. Click here for recipes.

Clothes Closet Looking for Volunteers!

Our clothes closet will remain open under temporary leadership for at least the next 6 months. To clarify, the CC is housed in the smaller building with the garage at 4045 Robinhood Rd. (NOT the "big" house with the mold problem).  The smaller CC building does have power, heat, air, and no funky smells! Without rekindled interest from the Fellowship, the CC is likely to be closed permanently after September.  If you have never volunteered and would like to get a more informed opinion on the operations of this social outreach effort, please use the link below to sign up online! You can choose your date and time, and even far in advance!  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B084CA8AD2DA1FB6-clothes

Rev. Lisa Offers Class About Understanding the Bible

This class, which focuses on the New Testament, is designed to help empower skeptics, seekers, nonbelievers, religious liberals and progressives reclaim the Bible from literalists. Rev. Lisa Romantum Schwartz brings curiosity, respect, and even some reverence to this overview of the gospels (including some apocrypha) and some of the letters of Paul. FREE but please register (non-members will be charged for child care, if needed).

Samaritan Ministries Computer Lab

The Samaritan Ministries shelter hosts a computer lab for use by the community. They have 5 PCs used for responding to email, applying for jobs and searching the web. They need volunteers to staff the computer lab answering basic questions (training provided) and opening/closing the lab. They're currently only able to open the lab a few nights a week due to limited volunteers. Several folks from the Fellowship have been volunteering recently and found it to be a very rewarding experience without a significant commitment. Sign up with this link or contact Don Kautz with questions.
